Welcome! I'm a Research Biologist with the NOAA National Marine Fisheries Service. I utilize my bioinformatics expertise to develop voucher-based eDNA databases and harmonize genomics workflows between NOAA and the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History.
I also have a broad interest in systematics, speciation, and ichthyology. My research integrates genomic, morphological, and ecological data to answer questions guided by natural history. Most of my work is centered on North American freshwater fishes, but I have also dabbled in anoles, frogs, and even copepods!
I completed my PhD in the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Department at Yale University. After my PhD, I was awarded a National Science Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship in Biology to study the genomics of parallel evolution at the State University of New York at Buffalo. Follow my research updates on Bluesky @dmacguig.bsky.social or Mastodon @[email protected].
